Recover floppy disk files. Retrieve deleted documents and files from floppy
disks. Recover data from unreadable floppy disks.
Floppy disks have been around for years and there are millions in circulation. The main advantage of the floppy disk was it's
low cost and universal compatibility. Today, floppy disks are still used on older systems for backups and boot disks but
storage technology has advanced rapidly and the limited capacity of the floppy disk is leading to it becoming redundant.
In its design, the floppy disk is similar to the hard drive. It operates on the principles of magnetic recording and uses magnetic
heads for data storage and retrieval from the rotating magnetic media. The main differences is in the quality of the media and this
accounts for many of the problems experienced on Floppy disks.
As you can see from the image above, floppy disks can be subject to many types of physical damage and abuse.
Some parts of the disk
such as the slider are easily damaged and it is quite common for the slider to become bent or broken and possibly damage the surface
of the disk.
The disk can be seen inside the plastic protective cover and consists of a thin flexible disk coated on both sides with
a micron-thick magnetic coating. To extend the life of the disk, the disk surface is lubricated. The inside of the disk also contains
soft liners which are designed to stabilize disk rotation and protects it from mechanical damage. The liners also help to clean the
disk.
Unless the disk is carefully handled and stored in a protected environment there is always a danger of contamination. It is possible
for drinks to be spilt on the disk, dust and smoke to get inside, or be subject to flood or fire damage in more extreme cases. One
danger that is often overlooked is the electromagnetic radiation produced by Mobile phones. Mobile phones produce electromagnetic
'pulses' as they determine their position in a network. One single EMR pulse is enough to zap a floppy, completely destroying the data.
Along with Physical damage, Floppy disks are also subject to 'Logic' damage. This type of damage cannot be seen but can also make the
floppy disk unreadable.
Logical damage can result in messages such as "File not found", "disk not formatted", Invalid or corrupt partition, Corrupt FAT,
Invalid sector or Disk I/O errors being issued. In many cases the file or disk structure has become damaged and the floppy disk
cannot be read. When you get error messages such as these we may be able to help recover at least some, if not all of the original
data.
Some of the problems we can help with include.
- Undelete files that have been deleted on the floppy disk.
- Recover floppy disk files after an accidental format.
- Recover data from the floppy disk when Windows says the disk is 'not formatted'.
- Recover data from the floppy disk when it can't be read and Windows says 'not accessible' or prompts you to format.
- Recover inaccessible data on floppy disk.
- Recover data after physical damage or contamination.

What we do
When we receive your disk we will assess its condition. Afterwards we will contact you to
tell you what we have discovered, discuss with you the options available and confirm the price.
Recovery depends on the condition of the disk and can take from a few hours to a number of days.
We can supply new hard disks if required. Smaller quantities of data are usually transferred
to CD or DVD.

Prices
Prices depend on:
- How difficult the job is
- Quantity of data
- Whether special equipment is required
- Urgency
Hard disk Recovery

FASTPASS - Recoveries are usually processed on a First Come
basis. It is possible to queue jump by purchasing a Fastpass
for £40. This is only available on Hard disk recoveries.
Payment can be by credit card, bank transfer or cheque. When payment is received we will complete
the recovery by copying the data to a suitable media.
NO FIX - NO FEE. If we are unable to recover any data we do not charge.
