Powerpoint files tend to corrupt quite easily and are difficult to recover without commercial software.

One of the more common reasons for corruption is using the 'fast save' option which periodically saves just the update information on your file, it doesn't save the entire file. Fast Saves don't actually save the file unless you click on save. Basically, fast save records all the updates you have made step by step. When PowerPoint re-creates the file, it uses the pieces to gradually re-build the file. However, if the process is interrupted or you don't click on save you may have an incomplete file that won't open.

Other common causes of corruption are bad sectors on storage media, lost clusters, cross-linked files, viruses, and system crashes. A few missing or corrupted structures are enough to stop the Powerpoint presentation from opening.

There are a few options that you can take and a possible solution, that may work in some situations, is to use the Insert-Slides option in a new blank PowerPoint file and import the slides from the corrupt presentation. However, if this doesn't work you probably require Powerpoint recovery services. PowerPoint may issue messages similar to these if it is corrupt
  • PowerPoint cannot open the type of file represented by filename.ppt.
  • Unable to read files.
  • This file is not in a recognizable format.
  • ????.ppt cannot be accessed. The file may be read-only, or you may be trying to access a read-only location.
  • POWERPOINT.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program.

Payment can be by credit card, bank transfer or cheque. When payment is received we will complete the recovery by copying the data to a suitable media.
